Dickies Restaurant

Dickies, on Josiah Tongogara Street in Bulawayo, serves traditional Zimbabwean dishes without a printed menu: staff describe what's available that day. C Ray (July 2026) noted meals mostly run $3 to $5, but found the lack of vegetarian options limiting and confirmed the restaurant doesn't take cards.

Reviewers name sadza, road runner, beef and goat among the regulars. Zembe (2025) called the food quality excellent, though felt the service needed work and the prices steep for what's on offer, and Adam (March 2020) recommends the stew, amasi and beef bones served with sadza and vegetables. A German visitor in 2023 found the goat meat intensely flavoured, and though cautious about its strong smell at first, called the meal incredibly tasty.

Service is where opinions split. Owen (May 2022) praised “the most friendly staff you can ever expect”, but Joseph (2022) had a waitress with “a bad attitude” and lamb that arrived “just plain boiled and only lightly seasoned with salt”, with no sauces or chillies on offer. Dickies opens daily from 08:00 to 22:00.
